SEO Hero Tip: How to get your business on Google Maps

If you're a local business and you want to get your business listed and/or improve the visibility of your business on Google Maps, here are a few quick tips:

  1. Make sure you setup a Google Business account, and/or claim your Google Business listing and any other third-part listings and make sure the information is listed exactly the same (for example: Main St. vs. Main Street – it doesn't matter which one you choose, but choose and use ONE version, and make sure they all are consistent on any outside website listings and on your website, and social media profiles.

  2. Post on Facebook – Google uses Facebook as a local signal, if you post regularly on Facebook as your business, Google will see you as more legitimate and active and therefore it can help with your Google presence on maps and in general.

  3. Create good local content on your website – make sure to have and add lots of good, original and new content on your website that talks about location-specific topics, such as an online menu that mentions your city and/or neighborhood in the intro copy. Or, if you're a garden nursery, you could write daily posts about plants that do well locally, such as native plants.

  4. Get third-party local websites to link to your website: find partnerships in your neighborhood and community, seek out and join or participate in Chambers of Commerce, public guides, community organizations, industry groups, and local publications such as neighborhood papers.

  5. Get Google Reviews – ask your happy customers to review you on you on Google, the more positive reviews you have, the more visible your website will be on Google maps. Also, ask them to review you on third-party websites such as Facebook, Yelp, and Bing.

As a Denver Website Designer, I find that the more you build your online presence with local-driven content, the better! Keep adding to your website regularly, post to social media channels like Facebook, and you'll find that you're Google Maps presence will improve with time.
