Why do people still hire web designers when there are website builders out there such as Wix, Squarespace and Wordpress?

Why hire a Web Designer if there are so many great DIY website builders available?

There are many answers to that question:

  • Because not everyone is a designer, and it can be super-frustrating trying to customize a template with your own images / colors / fonts if you don't like designing!

  • Website Designers have lots of expert tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, SEO tools, etc – as we design websites every day. This allows for much more creative freedom in the design than the simple DIY website builders allow for. We can design custom graphics and layouts for any platform, elevating it to a higher level.

  • Website Designers also know how these DIY platforms inside and out, and know how to do everything desired. For example, when you're trying Wix out for the first time, it's not easy to start from scratch and there is a learning curve. If you're design-minded, and you have lots of time, you can figure it all out – but if you just want to have the website designed and launched, and then get training to continue to edit and update the website from there, that's when it's great to hire a Wix Designer like myself. DIY website builders are GREAT for editing websites, but building your website from scratch (or even from a template) still requires a great deal of time to learn the platform and customize as desired.

  • Because not everyone knows much about how to properly build, launch and make sure the website is submitted to search engines, there are lots of things that a website designer will bring to the table:

  • As a Denver Website Designer, as part of my website design services I help with all aspects of building out the website. I will help get all the pages setup and properly titled and optimized for SEO (search engine optimization) with meta tags and alternative image tags.

  • Submitting to Search Engines: I also take care of submitting website sitemap.xml files to Google Webmasters and Bing Webmasters, and submit websites to dmoz and other basic directories so that the website can be quickly indexed and added to search results.

  • Retain Website Ranking: If you have an existing website, when we are ready to launch the new website, I will build 301 redirects for all your old pages to make sure they are linking to the new coordinating pages. These help Google and other search engines (and any third-party websites) because 301 redirects point them to the new page, so no links are "broken". Google will sniff these out and re-index all your pages with the new URLs and your pages will retain their ranking. Not doing this can HURT your rankings, so make sure to do it if you have an existing website and are launching a new website to replace it.
